What you need to know
10 day stays in MIQ
On 21 December, the New Zealand Government announced that from 11.59pm Thursday 23 December 2021, the stay in MIQ will increase from 7 days to 10 days, effective from that day. This is a part of a suite of precautionary measures to keep Omicron out of the community for as long as possible. More information about the Government announcement can be found here: https://www.beehive.govt.nz/release/omicron-government%E2%80%99s-plan-minimise-risk.
Your MIQ voucher does not give you the right to enter New Zealand
New Zealand's borders are closed to everyone except New Zealand citizens and residents unless they qualify for an exception. Visit Immigration New Zealand's Border closure and exceptions webpage to find out if you qualify for a border exception.
Spaces in MIQ are limited – you may not be able to secure a voucher on your preferred date
The Managed Isolation Allocation System shows dates where there are available rooms in managed isolation facilities. Please select an arrival date where there is availability. If you need to travel urgently, visit the MIQ website for more information on Emergency Allocation requests.
Vouchers for MIQ are gradually released in batches over several weeks and months
Vouchers are released approximately three months ahead of time and releases are dependent on airlines confirming their flight schedules with MIQ. People in different time zones have a fair opportunity to secure a voucher.
Check confirmed flights in the system BEFORE booking your flights
After you have secured your date, you will have 48 hours to enter your flight details into the Managed Isolation Allocation System. This process involves selecting a confirmed flight from a drop-down menu in the system under STEP THREE – Confirm your arrival details. Please check the list of confirmed flights here BEFORE you book your flights.
You cannot choose the city or facility you will go to
If you are in a facility in a different city to the one you arrived in or to your destination after you complete your managed isolation, we will transport you back to the airport you arrived at, if you wish, unless you indicate otherwise. Transport back to the airport could be by bus or plane, depending on where you complete your isolation. We advise waiting to book onward travel until you get to your managed isolation facility, or booking a flexible fare.
