What you need to know
Does the Managed Isolation Allocation Voucher give me the right to enter New Zealand?
No, your voucher only confirms you have an allocation in a managed isolation facility. New Zealand's borders are closed to everyone except New Zealand citizens and residents unless they qualify for an exception. Visit Immigration New Zealand's Border closure and exceptions webpage to find out if you qualify for a border exception.
Do I have to pay for my Managed Isolation Allocation Voucher?
There is no cost to get a voucher. However, some people will need to contribute to the costs of their managed isolation. Refer to the Charges for managed isolation webpage for more information.
Why do I need to isolate?
Everyone entering New Zealand is required to do their part to stop COVID-19 spreading in New Zealand by completing at least 14 days in managed isolation or quarantine before safely entering the community.
Those arriving from another country are at risk of carrying the virus and potentially bringing it back to New Zealand. This 14-day period allows us to isolate you in case you are incubating the disease and means we can better control potential spread to the New Zealand community.
I am a New Zealand citizen/resident, do I need to enter a managed isolation facility?
Yes. Everyone returning to New Zealand must stay in managed isolation or quarantine for at least 14 days and return a negative COVID-19 test before they can go into the community, unless an exemption has been granted.
Exemptions to managed isolation are rare and will only be issued in very limited circumstances and where the health risk is low and can be managed. Visit Exemptions from isolation for more information.
Can I choose the city or facility I isolate in?
No. You will not be able to choose where you will stay. Passengers on the same flight are typically allocated to the same managed isolation facility, except those assessed as having a higher risk of COVID-19 who will enter quarantine.
Who needs to get a voucher through this website?
Everyone arriving in New Zealand before 11.59pm, 2 November 2020 is strongly encouraged to use this website to get a voucher confirming they have been allocated a place in a managed isolation facility before they board their flight.
From 12am, 3 November, having a voucher becomes a legal requirement. For flights arriving in New Zealand after 12am, 3 November, airlines will not be permitted to board passengers to New Zealand who do not have a voucher, unless they are exempt from using the Managed Isolation Allocation System.
You can ask someone to complete the registration for you or on behalf of you or your group. They will need to create an account and enter their own details before entering the passenger information.
What if I can't find an arrival date that suits my travel plans?
The Managed Isolation Allocation System shows dates where there are available places in managed isolation facilities. Please select an arrival date where there is availability.
What happens if I need to travel urgently?
Create a registration and see if there is availability in managed isolation for the date you need to arrive in New Zealand. If there are no places available for that date, and your arrival is time critical, you may be eligible to request a special allocation. Please visit the MIQ website for more information and a full list of eligibility criteria.
I booked my flight to New Zealand before the Managed Isolation Allocation System was set up, do I still have to get a voucher?
If your flight arrives in New Zealand before 11.59pm, 2 November, you are strongly encouraged to get a Managed Isolation Allocation Voucher.
If your flight arrives in New Zealand after this time, you will be required to get a voucher, regardless of when you booked your flights. You will not be permitted to board if you do not have a voucher, unless you are exempt.
Some travellers who booked flights prior to the system going live may find there are no available places in the Allocation System for their arrival date. Visit the MIQ website to find out how you can request a Managed Isolation Allocation Voucher for your arrival date in New Zealand.
Can I get a Managed Isolation Allocation Voucher through another website?
No. Vouchers can only be obtained through this website.
We are a large family travelling together, can we isolate together?
Yes. Families travelling together can register in the Managed Isolation Allocation System using the 'family registration' option, for groups of up to 12 people. The members of the group will be allocated a set of rooms at the same facility, where possible.
For family groups of more than 12 people, the family will need to create two or more registrations. Each registration will need to indicate in the 'Special Requests or other information' text box under 'Step 2' that those listed across the two (or more) registrations are one family group and wish to isolate together. There is one voucher issued for each registration.
Does everyone in the group get a voucher?
No. If you complete a 'family registration', you will receive one Managed Isolation Allocation Voucher for the group. The voucher will list the names of the people in your group.
I am travelling with people who aren’t family members, can we isolate together?
If your travel group is comfortable sharing rooms for the duration of the stay in managed isolation, you should complete a 'family registration'. If you wish to have separate rooms, you will each need to complete an 'individual registration'. Couples should complete a 'family registration'.
